I decided to read chapter 4 four of the Great Gatsby for this module’s free choice blog.  In chapter four Nick took a trip with Gatsby to New York to eat lunch. As they drove to the city, Gatsby told Nick about his past, Nick finds his story to not be completely accurate. When Nick asks which Midwestern city he is from, Gatsby replies, “San Francisco.” Gatsby then lists told Nick of his achievements: getting an educated at Oxford, to have collected jewels in the capitals of Europe, received medals in World War I by multiple European countries.

Nick meets up with Jordan Baker After lunch with Gatsby in New York. Jordan tells Nick the secret conversation with Gatsby at the party. She stated that Gatsby told her that he is in love with Daisy Buchanan. According to Jordan, during the war Daisy fell in love with Lieutenant Jay Gatsby, who was stationed at the base near her home. Daisy married Tom although she was in love with Jay Gatsby. The night before her wedding Daisy drank herself into numbness, after she received a letter from Gatsby. Gatsby also bought his mansion in West Egg to be near Daisy.

Gatsby wanted nick to invite Daisy over for tea so he could secretly meet up with her.

• What was your personal reaction to this reading selection? I like the book “The Great Gatsby” so far. Narrator Nick Carraway is my favorite character in the story, he is a honest caring man.

·         What do you believe the author’s intent was, and what patterns of organization did you observe?  The author’s intend was to make the readers think for there are many beliefs about Gatsby that no one really know how he got his education or how he got his money. The author uses order of importance as his organization patterns.

I read an article on F. Scott Fitzgerald on http://www.history.com/topics/f-scott-fitzgerald . F Scott Fitzgerald was a famous writer during the time period of the 20^th century born in St. Paul Minnesota on September 24, 1896 France grew up in a poor family and he didn’t have the essentials to live. Like electricity, three meals a day or clean water. France Scott was named after his second cousin Francis Scott Key who created “The Star –Spangled Banner”.

·         What was your personal reaction to this reading selection?

I found the article to be very interesting. The article informed on the life of Francis Scott Fitzgerald.

·         What do you believe the author’s intent was, and what patterns of organization did you observe?

The Author’s intent in making the article was to inform the readers on a great American author. The Author used chronological order to organize the data.

I chose to read the book “Hunger games” By Suzanne Collins

·         What was your personal reaction to this reading selection?

I personally liked the book. It had an interesting concept. The book is an action adventure that consisted of two groups of society higher class and lower class. The higher class where rich be their inheritance and family name. While the lower class where dirt poor. It was hard for them to find jobs or even eat. For entertainment the upper class would host an annual “Hunger Games” where the rich would select a male and a female from each of the twelve districts by random. The selected boy and girl must participate in a one man for himself man slaughter that lasted approximately two weeks. The rules were that their must be only one person left standing. The winner is rewarded praise and their district is given many gifts and rations of food. The main character showed being Nobel and responsible when she volunteered to participate in the hunger game when her younger sister was drafted into the hunger games. Out of all of the seventy four annual hunger games there never been anyone willing to volunteer to participate in the hunger games for any reason.

·      If you were to create notes to help you remember the most important points from your reading, what style of notes (lists, outlines, thought bubbles or webs, etc.) would you use and why?

If I were to create notes to help me remember the most important points from my reading I would chose to do outlines because there is so much going on with the book.

·         I chose to read the book “The Fault in Our Stars” for this free choice blog. I was recommended to read this book by my older sister in college. She is a big reader said this book was In the book Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old teenager with thyroid cancer is forced by her mother to attend a weekly support group because she believed she was showing signs of depression. When she ended the support group she bumped into an attractive 18 year old boy named Augustus flirted with Hazel Lancaster and invited her to a date. The two kicked it off and begun to sincerely love one another. Although it was clear that they were the prefect pair Hazel tried to avoid showing her affection for him because she feared dying and having him live in the pain of missing her. This was an amazing read and moved me. I am usually not the kind of person the read a romantic book however I enjoyed it and I have to greatly thank my sister for the recommendation.





I believe I would use a thought bubble to create notes to help me remember the most important points from the reading. I think this is the only way I can gather all of the important information.

·         What was your personal reaction to this reading selection?

I personal did not know I would really enjoy reading this chapter in the book. I plan to finish reading the book. I liked how the author had an amazing sense of humor. The characters are funny with witty punch lines. You can’t truly guess what they will say next.

What Type Of Reader Am I

Based on the quiz I took on slide 9 of 1.03  I am a reader that tends toward nonfiction as my favorite genre. The quiz inferred that i enjoy reading information based on reality. The quiz also hypothesized that i would like magazines and newspapers. I must say I am surprised how spot on and acculturate the quiz was.
